What is Prayerstorming?
Prayerstorming is a collaborative process where we come together to seek God's guidance on a specific topic.
Instead of simply praying for things, we are praying about things.
As a group, we listen to God and engage in thoughtful discussion with God by expressing our thoughts as prayers to God. Others respond by adding on to what was prayed by expressing their thoughts through prayer to God.
What's Good about Prayerstorming?
How to begin?
Start by individually considering the following that is relevant to the area of focus for the prayerstorm:
Find Scripture
What passage of scripture speaks to this area of focus? Let the Holy Spirit guide you using the Bible to understand God's heart about the matter.
Respond through Prayer
Don't discuss with each other. Instead, respond to what was shared by praying your thoughts out to God
Scribe Your Prayers
Rather than minuting down what we say, let's minute down what we pray
Six possible prayers
We suggest six possible ways for you to respond. We call this the Prayers of PRAISE
Pondering
This is a prayer of wondering about the possibilities of what could the opportunities or potential about the area of focus
“God, I’m imagining how You provided for the Israelites in the desert; perhaps we can offer similar sustenance to those in need in our community.”
Revelation
This is a prayer about an inspiration or innovative thought that God gave to you about the area of focus
“Lord, I see a picture of how You protected Moses through a basket; this inspires me to think about how we can create safe spaces for those feeling lost.”
Awareness
This is a prayer of discernment about the bigger picture of context to bring more light to the area of focus
“God, even as we are praying about safe spaces, I am reminded of the orphans in this city and how they are neglected."
Ignition
This is a prayer of how action could take place in response to what was prayed
“Holy Spirit, as I reflect on how You filled the disciples with courage, I envision creating a storytelling event where community members can share their personal testimonies of overcoming challenges, inspiring others to step out in faith.”
Support
This is a prayer of how assistance could be given to ideas to make them come to pass
“God, I recall how Aaron supported Moses; I see how we could bring on volunteers to help spread word about the event or even get sponsorships”
Endurance
This is a prayer of how the ideas or initiatives generated during the prayerstorm can be sustained over time
“Lord, remembering how You strengthened Paul during his trials, I would like to set up regular prayer check-ins for our team, fostering accountability and resilience as we pursue this action.”
